What is Photodynamic Therapy for aesthetic use?

This method pursues both medical and aesthetic purposes. It is the combination of two factors. First, 5-aminolevulinic acid or ALA, a photosensitizing substance. And, secondly, irradiation of light with an Intense Pulsed Light laser or IPL which causes the selective destruction of damaged or aged tissues, which is beneficial to surrounding cells.

Terapia fotodinamica estetica

Eliminates age spots, telangiectasias, diffuse redness, poikiloderma civatte and uneven pigmentation on face and body.
The treatment directs controlled pulses of light to the surface of the skin. The light is absorbed by two of the body’s own natural chemical substances: melanin in pigmented areas and hemoglobin in the blood. Both pigments convert light energy into heat and it is used to destroy parts of the cells in which melanin is located and to damage the walls of the vessels that bring blood to the areas in which the vascular lesion is seen. This technique is known with the name of “Selective Photothermolysis”.
Photorejuvenation treatment also eliminates larger telangiectasias and repairs skin problems caused by sun exposure in face, neck, cleavage and hands.
The action of light equipment Ellipse on the skin, stimulates the production of collagen to improve the texture of the skin, the size of the pore and increases luminosity and brightness of the skin surface matching its tone.

Among the medical purposes pursued we find such serious conditions as, on the one hand, actinic keratosis, which as already described in the specific section for this condition, is a lesion of the skin produced by overexposure to the sun which can lead to cancer and, on the other hand, the local treatment of skin cancer. However, you can see our dermatologists to discover what other pathological uses it possesses.

The laser acts causing the destruction of old, diseased, or damaged skin cells and stimulates the creation of new ones. In this way, skin regenerates and heals by itself without having to perform any surgery or inject any foreign substance into our own body.

Yet, as with any laser treatment, phototherapy involves certain risks, so put yourself in good hands and having prior, quality information is vital for a good result. Our dermatologists are committed to recommend the treatment that best suits your needs and answer any questions that may arise before, during or after the treatment.
