TREATMENTS > LASER
Despite the immense amount of beneficial effects that the sun has for our health, excessive exposure can cause serious skin and eye problems, particularly if we do not apply sunscreen or use sunglasses. Each summer, scientists are more convinced in this regard: with each passing year, solar radiation is stronger so it is important to raise awareness about the dangers involved and the important thing is to be well protected, since it is the only way to prevent burns, stains and even the development of cancer.
The appearance of the first signs of photo-aging signals that we are submitting our skin to excessive exposure to the sun: wrinkles, spots, sagging, wrinkles, telangiectasias and, in short, visible and premature aging of the skin. These alterations do not pose any serious and immediate problem for our health and you can find a solution to all of them with different types of treatments.
Sunspots, for instance, can disappear if we use specific bleaching products or peels. Telangiectasias or any other type of vascular lesion can be removed with laser. Wrinkles, sagging, crow’s feet and grooves have a wide range of treatments and any of our dermatologists can recommend the most suitable one depending on the intensity with which these signs of aging are displayed in your skin.
What is keratosis?
Constant exposure to the Sun must be remedied, since it not only causes the reappearance of photo-aging signs, but increases the risk of very serious illnesses such as tumors or cancer.
Actinic keratosis, for example, is a premalignant lesion of the skin, a tumor which is typical due to its rough touch which can lead to cancer if it is not treated in time. Occasionally, it can also display a reddish or brown coloration, but this is not always the case. In fact, many times it is easier to discover them through touch, than through the view. In addition, they tend to appear in those places of the body which suffer more exposure to the sun such as the scalp, face, torso, arms, etc.
Treatments that exist in this case are varied and the decision to apply one or another will be up to our team of dermatologists, who will discuss your case with the utmost attention and dedication. Thus, depending on the state in which these cutaneous lesions are found and their number, we can recommend different types of treatment:
- Cryosurgery: freezing and destroying the cells affected by the application of liquid nitrogen.
- Topical chemotherapy: is the use of anti-cancer creams based on 5-fluorouracil or 5-FU.
- Photodynamic therapy: it is highly effective and brings with it the rejuvenation of healthy cells in the treated area so it is both a medical and aesthetic treatment.
- Chemical peel: applies a chemical skin solution so that the outer layers are replaced by new ones, it is highly effective.
- Laser treatments: also used for skin cell rejuvenation, give very good results in the treatment of sun keratosis.
Prevention of keratosis
Your dermatologist will warn you that what is most recommendable for your health is taking all precautions to never develop a problem like this. In particular, if you are particularly sensitive to skin problems caused by the sun, i.e., if you have light skin, if you spend much time working outdoors or if you have suffered severe burns at some point in your life.
Whatever the case, even if you only want to learn about the risks and precautions that must be taken to not develop any skin problems due to exposure to the sun, you should check with a dermatologist.
