LASER VARICOSE VEINS
Despite the fact that most of the requests we receive are for treating varicose veins, at Clínica Dr. Serrano we deal also with congenital stains, angiomas, couperosis, acne, burns, scars caused by surgery or the well-known telangiectasias or spider veins. To do this, we use photocoagulation with long pulse laser ND-YAG 532-1064, vascular surgery, or a combination of both techniques.
What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are dilated veins caused by the difficulty of blood to return to the heart. Blood pools in the veins and causes them to dilate, making them visible. They do not usually pose a health problem, but they do on an aesthetic level.
Varicose veins appear regularly with age, but they are also due to hereditary factors. In addition, pregnancy, obesity or hormonal changes often facilitate their emergence.
Treatment Laser Nd: YAG 532-1064
For removal of varicose veins, our dermatologists and specialists will proceed to submit the patient to a completely painless laser treatment, hardly invasive, which will cause the clotting of blood vessels and their subsequent reabsorption by the body, causing them to disappear without any damage in the surrounding healthy tissue. The treatment is so simple that the application of any type of anesthesia is not required.
The number of sessions needed to achieve the complete disappearance of varicose veins varies depending on the number and intensity with which they appear on our skin, but generally three or four treatments are sufficient.
Similarly, the duration of sessions will also vary depending on the size of the area to be treated, ranging from fifteen to thirty minutes. It is important to wait at least four weeks from one session to the next. As we have said dye pulsed neodymium YAG laser is not aggressive with the skin. However, just as any laser, it will produce a slight inflammation which, even if it soon subsides, should heal completely before exposing our skin to a new session. Also, the dermatologist in charge of your treatment will surely recommend you specific creams which can be used both to alleviate inflammation and to prevent possible skin infections.
We also have other treatments at our clinic, more invasive, such as sclerotherapy, surgical ligation or IPL, reserved for more serious cases in which veins have bloated and become a nuisance or even a health problem.
Tips to avoid the reappearance of varicose veins
Improving life habits, maintain a diet healthy and exercise daily (even just walking half an hour a day) is essential if we want varicose veins to not reappear. Of course, avoiding obesity is essential. As well as constipation, and using tight-fitting clothes.
Instead, it is recommended to always use a shoe that is comfortable and with more heel than that recommended by podiatrists. Standing with legs aloft will facilitate blood circulation, as well as taking cold showers, receiving massages and moving away from sources of heat, which will prevent the widening of veins.
There are three types of veins:
- Superficial veins, located just below the surface of the skin.
- Deep veins, which are the large blood vessels that are found inside muscles.
- Perforating veins that connect superficial veins with deep veins.
Superficial veins, the first type of vein described, are the blood vessels affected more often by varicose veins.
Varicose veins can be painful with age, something that can be relieved with the use of compression stockings or elastic bandages. However, and although they rarely tend to lead to health problems, there is the possibility of complications such as stasis ulcers, phlebitis—a form of vein inflammation—, or blood clots that can become a source of infection.
