PATHOLOGIC PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY
What is Photodynamic therapy for pathological use?
This method pursues both medical and aesthetic purposes. It is the combination of two factors. First, 5-aminolevulinic acid or ALA, a photosensitizing substance. And, secondly, the irradiation of light with a laser, intense pulsed light or IPL which causes the selective destruction of damaged or aged tissues
It has been shown that its use is not only useful for treating medical problems such as actinic keratitis or skin cancer, but also favors the rejuvenation of the skin cells, restoring a healthy, elastic and toned appearance of the treated area.
The reason that serves both medical and aesthetic use is the effect that the wavelength of the laser used causes on the skin. Laser activates the renovation of cells as well as the production of collagen and elastin, a substance naturally produced by our body to keep our skin smooth and luminous. As years go by, the level of production of these substances falls, and this causes the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging and expression. Phototherapy reactivates this production and does so reaching the deeper layers of the skin. But it not only removes wrinkles. It is also a good aesthetic solution to spots—both solar and age related—, dilated pores and vascular lesions such as telangiectasias.
However, phototherapy, as any laser treatment, brings certain risks. As a consequence, it is necessary to not only put yourself in good hands, but to have prior quality information. Our dermatologists are committed to recommend the treatment that best suits your needs and answer any questions that may arise before, during or after the treatment.
